The Pixie Poppers are going on tour!!

Rachel and Kaitie are both on a Destination Imagination team and they call themselves "The Pixie Poppers". Their team decided to take on a challenge called ViDIo Lit Hits. They had to pick a book and then make a live music video based off of that book. They decided to use the book The Homework Machine by Dan Gutman. The kids wrote the lyrics and the music themselves, choreographed the dancing, and made all of the props (including the design and construction of a catapult). They did a ton of work all on their own (adult help and input is not allowed)....and now all their hard work has paid off!

They won first place and are going to the state competition at the end of the month!

So if anyone happens to be in Wenatchee on March 28, I hear that a really awesome band called The Pixie Poppers are going on tour and will be stopping by for a one night performance. You don't want to miss this! But in case you can't make it, here is a video of their award-winning performance from last Saturday.

Science Fair Fun.

This year, both Rachel and Kaitie were able to participate in the school science fair. They both did a great job.

Rachel did an experiment to see what improved short term memory the most: walking, sitting or chewing gum.

She found that the majority of people have better recall if they are walking while learning new information. It was a pretty involved project and she did a great job (and won a blue ribbon). (What she really wanted to do was holographic photography so she could study the effect of temperature on different materials. Mom and Dad wouldn't let her spend that much money unfortunately.)

Kaitie did her project on the relationship between a ball's temperature and how high it will bounce. She learned all about molecules, gases and density. She also did a great job and earned not only a blue ribbon, but also the Best of Show ribbon for the third grade. She was very happy. But....the best news came later that night. Her teacher from last year stopped her in the hall to ask her about her project. Her teacher was impressed with how much Kaitie had learned. She asked if Kaitie would come teacher her second graders about it the next day. Kaitie was more than happy to. (The next day she reported that her first day of teaching went great.)
